One of the biggest impact in during 2023 has been the introduction of AI in the digital world
In December 2022, few people I knew personally had never herd of Open AI and chatGPT or midjourny, let alone knew what they where about or thought they would ever use them.
12 months passed, and we see Large Language model tools and text to image tools across the digital sphere.
We also see a diverse split between those for and against AI technology. Most people who feel the need to express an opinion have little understanding what constitutes a Large Language model or text to image tool.
Bit like freemasonry really, those who feel the need to express an opinion have little understand what freemasonry is really all about.
Both the Large Language model commonly referred to an AI and Freemasonry are misunderstood.
The current versions of AI tools are Large Language models. They are trained on human intelligence and output human intelligence, just repackaged. There is nothing Artificial about any of it.
Edison was famously quoted of saying, I have discovered 10,000 ways a light blub will not work. Until he found a process that did work. Since then we have had Incandescent Lamps, Fluorescent Lamps, and LED lamps.
All human created processes. All show remarkable energy advantages over the previous process, if not least in both light output over energy input.
For an AI process to be truly AI, it would have to invent a totally new process to generate light from electricity, that has never be thought of by a human before. And at some time in the future, that will be achieved.
Before we get to that point there needs to be a Numerical Computation model. A model that can do maths, and understand the math process.
Currently if you ask chatGPT what does 2+2 equal, the Large Language model will look at its training, and predict from that, the next character should be an = sign and then a 4 character.
And it will be correct. But it does not understand why. The big move will take place with a Numerical Computation model, when it can do the maths, and explain how and why it came up with the answer.
There are unconfirmed sources that Open AI has developed such a model call Q* ( Q Star ).

For the time being, Freemasons can and will continue to use these Large Language models and text to image tools to promote Freemasonry in the digital world, to attract new members.
The question is, “how can we open the discussion to research the advancements of these AI and VR technologies for use in the whole masonic process. ?”
Freemasonry has we know it today, has survived 300 years by adapting to the changes in society.
As we are Entered Apprentices in this subject, we need to apply some time, open our minds, and continually educate ourselves.
